Set up the shared clock-in tablet
One tablet on the wall, a PIN each, and nothing else on the screen.
What this is for
A tablet on the wall that anybody can walk up to, tap four digits, and be clocked on. It is the same clock the sidebar button uses — the PIN only says who is standing there.
What is on this screen
Each part of the screen above, top to bottom, and what changing it affects.
- Clock on / off
- The whole screen. No menu, no sidebar, nothing about the shop's work — it is meant to be left up.
- The four dots
- How many digits have been tapped so far. The PIN itself is never shown.
- 0–9 · Clear · Go
- Tap four digits then Go. Clear starts again.
- The line that comes back
- The person's name and what just happened — 'Jo Smith — clocked on at 7:04am'. It clears itself ready for the next person.
Before you start
- Time keeping has to be on for your shop. If Time is missing from the sidebar, it is not.
- Give each person a PIN first, under Settings → Your shop → Time keeping. Nobody can clock on without one.
Step by step
- 1
Give everyone a PIN first: Settings → Your shop → Time keeping, scroll to 'Clocking on at a shared tablet', type four digits beside each person and press Set. Somebody with no PIN cannot clock on at the tablet at all.

On the tablet, sign in to Sign OS once with any account in your shop, then go to /clock and leave it there. Add it to the home screen so it opens straight back to the keypad.

From then on nobody signs in or out. Each person taps their four digits and Go, and the screen names them and says whether they just clocked on or off.

To make the tablet the only way on or off, tick 'Staff clock on from the shop tablet only' in the same settings. The Clock button disappears from staff logins, so nobody clocks on from the car park.

Admins and production managers keep their own Clock button with that on, so a missed clock-off can still be fixed without walking to the tablet.
Tips & gotchas
- It is one toggle, not two buttons: whoever taps their PIN is clocked on if they were off, and off if they were on. Fewer decisions with gloves on.
- A PIN is not a login. It identifies the person for the clock and grants nothing else — the tablet cannot see quotes, jobs or customers.
- Sign OS does not recognise the tablet as a device. What keeps it safe on a wall is that the clock screen shows nothing and leads nowhere, so use a login without admin rights if you like.
- A wrong PIN says only that it was not recognised. It never says whose it nearly was, so nobody can map the shop by trying numbers.
