A Printavo alternative for Australian sign shops
Printavo is shop management software from the US decorated-apparel world. Its own blog says the team is most familiar with screen printing, and it serves embroidery, DTF and DTG shops and sign shops too. Sign OS is built in Australia for sign and print shops, with AUD pricing, GST invoices and two-way Xero sync. Here's how the two compare, and when Printavo is the better pick.
Printavo's published offer, checked 29 October 2026
These are Printavo's prices, not Sign OS's. Printavo publishes Lite at US$109 a month for 2 users and 20 quotes or invoices a month, Standard at US$244 a month for 5 users, and Premium for up to 20 users through its sales team. Printavo Merch is a further US$109 a month on Standard and included on Premium. Printavo's terms say its fees are quoted and payable in US dollars. Sign OS is priced in AUD by user bucket: Launch $89 for 3 users, Workshop $169 for 10 users, Scale $249 for 20 users, Signature $349 for 30 users per month AUD, with no onboarding fee.
Built around garments, or built around signs
Printavo's job types are screen printing, embroidery, DTF and DTG, and signage, and its plans are built around order flow: quotes, approvals, order statuses, shipping labels and packing slips, with purchasing, receiving and barcoding on its top plan and online stores through Printavo Merch. That suits a shop turning blank garments into finished orders.
Sign OS prices every product from a recipe: substrates by the sheet or roll, machine minutes, labour, waste and markup, calculated the same way on every quote.
- Sheet, roll, square-metre and linear-metre units, with waste and yield per material
- Machine time charged by the minute, setup and run separately
- Versioned artwork proofs with customer sign-off before production
- Installs with site details, dispatched to your crew or a contractor
Australian books, Australian dollars
Sign OS is billed in AUD, invoices are GST-aware end to end, and accounting syncs two-way with Xero or QuickBooks Online (MYOB built, not yet switched on): invoices go across and payment status comes back. Printavo's pricing page lists QuickBooks Online on its Standard and Premium plans and doesn't list Xero, and its terms are governed by Texas law. Sign OS is built and supported in Victoria, under Victorian-law terms.
- AUD billing: no exchange-rate drift on your software bill
- GST-aware quotes and invoices
- Two-way Xero and QuickBooks Online sync
- Free 30-day trial, no card
Where Printavo is the better choice
If most of your work is decorated apparel, Printavo is built for it and Sign OS isn't. Sign OS has nothing made for garments: no size runs, and no print-location or colour-count pricing out of the box. The same goes if you run in the US, bill in US dollars and keep your books in QuickBooks, or want online merch stores as a core part of the business.
Sign OS is the better fit when signage is the main business: substrates, routing, print and laminate, installs, and an Australian accounting setup.
- Screen printing, embroidery, DTF or DTG as the main work
- US-based shops billing in US dollars with QuickBooks
- Online merch stores as a core part of the business
Switching is a trial, not a project
You don't migrate to Sign OS — you trial it in parallel. Bulk CSV import brings customers, materials and suppliers across in an afternoon; the shared catalogue gives you a head start on products; and your next few new quotes run in Sign OS while old jobs finish where they are. If it doesn't earn its keep in 30 days, you've lost nothing — the demo is free and doesn't ask for a card.
- Bulk CSV import: customers, materials, suppliers
- Shared global catalogue of materials, machines and processes
- Run in parallel — no cut-over day, no consultants
- Free 30-day trial, no card, cancel by simply stopping
Frequently asked questions
- Does Printavo work for sign shops?
- Printavo says it does: signage is one of its job types, and a 2019 post on its blog says several hundred sign shops used it. Its origins and most of its features are in decorated apparel. Sign OS is built only for sign and print shops, so the difference shows in pricing: Sign OS works a sign out from the sheets, rolls and machine time it uses.
- Can I use Printavo in Australia?
- Nothing stops you, but check how it fits your books first. Printavo's published fees are in US dollars, its pricing page lists QuickBooks Online and not Xero, and its terms are under Texas law. Sign OS is billed in AUD, with GST-aware invoicing and two-way Xero and QuickBooks Online sync.
- Does Sign OS handle screen printing or embroidery?
- Not well, and we'd rather say so. Sign OS has no garment size runs or print-location and colour-count pricing. If decorated apparel is most of your work, a print-and-apparel system like Printavo will suit you better.
- How do I move from Printavo to Sign OS?
- Export your customers and suppliers as CSV and bulk-import them, or bring them across from Xero with Import from Xero if your books are there. Build your five most-quoted products as recipes, run your next quotes in Sign OS while existing orders finish in Printavo, and stop if it hasn't earned its place in the 30-day free trial.
