Build a template for the online designer
Set the artwork and decide what customers can change.
What this is for
A designer template is the artwork customers start from. You control its size, wording, images and allowed changes, then connect it to a priced product before publishing.
Before you start
- You are an admin. Your shop needs online designer access to publish a product for customers.
Step by step
- 1
Open Settings → Look & paperwork → Templates and choose Online designer.
- 2
Press New template. Choose a starting size or enter your own, and set whether it has one or two sides. You can also start from a PDF using the import option.
- 3
In the studio, add the wording, shapes, images or symbols you need. Set their position, size and colours, and check each side.
- 4
For each item, decide what customers can change. Lock fixed artwork; make customer wording or picture fields for the parts they supply. Set required fields and character limits.
- 5
Use Flexible layout only when you want customers to add their own elements within the controls you allow.
- 6
Save the template. Open the product’s Online designer setup to choose this template and publish it.
Tips & gotchas
- Saving a template does not publish it or change the product’s live designer. Update the live designer from the product setup after checking your changes.
- Use artwork and fonts your shop has permission to use. Finish any library checks shown before publishing.
- A screen preview is not a physical colour or fabrication proof. Check the generated output for your printing and finishing process.
