Price a product by its size choice
Use real prices per size, or match a typed size to the next size up.
What this is for
Common sizes fill in measurements. A size question can also decide which item and cost the recipe uses, which is useful for bought-in signs or print runs sold at set sizes.
Before you start
- Have the supplier’s real item costs and the sizes you offer ready.
Step by step
- 1
Open the product and add a single-choice size question. Add one choice per offered size, with its dimensions in the name, such as A5 (148 x 210).
- 2
Give each choice its own Item recipe line for the bought-in item and quantity. Picking that size must run only that size’s line.
- 3
If customers only buy those sizes, use the product’s Inputs controls to avoid asking for unrelated measurements.
- 4
If customers may type a custom width and length, include those inputs and tick Pick from the size typed on the quote on the labelled size question.
- 5
Test a draft quote. A custom size picks the smallest listed size it fits, either way round. The quote keeps the measurements typed and shows what size it is priced as.
- 6
Test a piece bigger than every listed size. Read the warning and resolve it before quoting; no larger size is invented.
Tips & gotchas
- Common sizes alone cannot hold a different buying price for each size.
- Check the recipe’s markup and resulting sell price as well as the buying cost.
- After copying a product, check the size-matching tick and its choice restrictions again.
