Join the Sign OS community on Discord
Connect your Discord to swap setups and tips with other sign shops.
What this is for
The Sign OS community is a server on Discord, the free chat app, where Sign OS shops swap product setups and pricing tips, ask questions, report bugs and ask for new features, with the Sign OS team in there too. Connect your Discord account once and Sign OS adds you to the server and labels you from your shop's plan, so you can see all of it. The invite link is https://discord.gg/pbBXUdSZV.
What is on this screen
Each part of the screen above, top to bottom, and what changing it affects.
The Community card, before you connect
- Community
- The heading at the very bottom of Settings, under all the setting groups. The same card is at the bottom of the My account window too (press Account at the bottom of the side menu), so staff who never go into Settings can still find it.
- Sign OS community on Discord
- The card's heading, with a line saying what the server is for: swapping product setups and pricing tips with other sign shops, and getting help from the Sign OS team.
- You'll sign in to Discord and we'll add you to the Sign OS server.
- A reminder of what the button does. It only shows until you're connected.
- Connect Discord
- Takes you to Discord to sign in and approve. Discord asks to let Sign OS see your username and add you to a server. Approve it and Sign OS adds you to the community server with your label on, then brings you back to Settings with a message. The button reads Opening Discord… while it gets ready.
The Community card, once you're connected
- Connected
- A green badge beside the heading.
- Connected as …
- The Discord username linked to your Sign OS login. Your label goes on this Discord account and follows your shop's plan from now on.
- You're not in the server at the moment
- An amber note, shown when your Discord account isn't in the server, for example because you left it. Press Open Discord to join again. Your label goes back on overnight; if you want it straight away, Disconnect and press Connect Discord again.
- Open Discord
- Opens the Sign OS server in a new tab, in the Discord app or your browser.
- Disconnect
- Asks first: Disconnect Discord? You stay in the server under the same name, but you're labelled Non-user and Sign OS stops keeping your label up to date. Press Disconnect to go ahead, or Cancel to leave it connected. You aren't kicked out of the server, and the card goes back to Connect Discord with a green Discord disconnected message.
Messages after you come back from Discord
- You're in. Open Discord to say g'day.
- It worked. You're in the server with your label on.
- Discord is connected. We couldn't finish adding you to the server just now…
- Your Discord is linked, but adding you to the server or putting your label on didn't go through. There's nothing to do: it sorts itself out overnight. To get in sooner, press Open Discord and join.
- You cancelled the Discord sign-in, so nothing was connected.
- You pressed Cancel on Discord's page. Press Connect Discord to try again.
- Discord didn't allow the connection · Discord didn't send you back properly
- Something went wrong on Discord's side. Press Connect Discord again.
- That Discord sign-in had expired.
- More than ten minutes passed on Discord's page, or you finished it in a different browser, or signed in to Sign OS as someone else part way through. Press Connect Discord again and finish it in one go, in the same browser.
- Your login isn't part of a shop, so there's nothing to connect.
- Only people who belong to a Sign OS shop can connect.
- Couldn't connect Discord. Try again, and tell us if it keeps happening.
- Something failed at our end. Try once more, then let us know.
The labels in the Discord server
- Subscriber
- Your shop is on a paid plan (Subscription active on Plan & billing). Sees the whole server.
- Trial
- Your shop is on a free trial that hasn't ended yet. Sees the whole server.
- Non-user
- Not connected in Sign OS, or the shop is no longer subscribed: the trial ran out without a plan, the subscription was cancelled or suspended, or the shop was closed. Also anyone whose login has been deactivated. Sees only the Start here pages.
- Sign OS Team
- The people who build Sign OS. Ask them anything.
Before you start
- You have a Discord account, or you're happy to make a free one when Discord asks.
- You're signed in to Sign OS with your own login. Each person connects their own Discord; nobody can connect or disconnect it for someone else.
Step by step

Open Settings and scroll to Community at the very bottom. Or press Account at the bottom of the side menu; the same card is at the bottom of the My account window.

Press Connect Discord. Discord opens: sign in, or make a free account.

Discord asks whether Sign OS can see your username and add you to a server. Press Authorize.

You land back on Settings with "You're in. Open Discord to say g'day." Sign OS has added you to the Sign OS server and put your shop's label on you.

Press Open Discord. Read the Start here pages, then jump in: share a product setup, ask a question, report a bug or ask for a feature.

To stop, press Disconnect on the same card and confirm. You stay in the server, labelled Non-user.
Note: Disconnecting doesn't remove you from the server. Leave it from inside Discord if you want to go altogether.
Tips & gotchas
- Labels keep themselves up to date. Sign OS checks straight after you connect, as soon as your shop's subscription changes, and again every night. A trial that runs out without a plan drops to Non-user overnight.
- Every staff member can connect their own Discord from My account and gets the shop's label, whatever their role or permissions in Sign OS. They don't need an admin to do it.
- Each person needs their own Sign OS login. A login holds one Discord account, so someone sharing the owner's login can't connect their own. Invite them as a user instead.
- Deactivating someone in Sign OS drops them to Non-user overnight. They stay in the server but only see Start here.
- One Discord account can only be linked to one Sign OS login. Connect it from a second login and it moves there; the first login's card goes back to Connect Discord.
- Only the label crosses over. Nothing else from your Sign OS account, such as your quotes, customers, prices or shop details, is shared with Discord. Sign OS keeps your Discord username so the card can show it, and Discord's permission is used once to add you to the server, then handed back.
- Anyone can join from the invite link without connecting, but they only see Start here until they connect Discord in Sign OS.
