Help/Production & the floor/Move work on the production planner

Move work on the production planner

Drag a step or a whole job, and Sign OS plans the rest round it.

What this is for

Sign OS plans it and you steer it. A step you place by hand is pinned: re-planning never moves it, and everything you haven't pinned keeps planning itself round your pins. Before you let go, the card tells you what the move will do.

Before you start

  • •You need "Move the production plan by hand". Production managers and admins have it; an admin can give it to someone else from their access on the Users page.

Step by step

  1. 1

On Week, drag a card to another day. While you hold it, it says what will happen: how full the department will be that day, which of the job's other steps move, and whether the job still makes its due date. Let go and it's pinned to that day, in the order you dropped it.

  2. 2

On Timeline, drag a step's bar to move it to a time, or drag either end to give it more or less time on this job. Drag a job's bar on the All row to move the whole job; its later steps follow on.

  3. 3

On People, drop a card on someone to give them the step. This needs Assign steps to people on in Settings > Departments.

  4. 4

Every change shows Undo for 8 seconds, held while your pointer or keyboard is on it. Press it to put things back the way they were; a drop or a Move to… that moved a step and gave it to someone is put back in one go.

  5. 5

To let Sign OS plan a step again, drag it back onto the tray, or open it and press Unpin.

  6. 6

Rather not drag? Click the card, then use Move to… in the job panel: pick the day, a time if you want one, How long if it needs more or less time, and who. A workshop task has its own Move to… when you open its card.

  7. 7

If a move would make the job finish after the customer's required date, Sign OS asks why before saving. The reason goes on the job's activity.

  8. 8

Show who changed what, at the foot of the job panel, lists every move with who made it and when, hand-overs, starts and finishes, and each time Sign OS re-planned the job.

Tips & gotchas

  • →A day the department is shut (a holiday, a machine service, the only person away) is hatched while you drag and won't take the drop. A full day only warns: estimates aren't exact and overtime happens.
  • →Dropping a job from Waiting for release onto a day releases it and puts it on that day (if you can't release jobs, it's pencilled in there instead). Release still checks the proof, deposit and anything else your shop requires; if one of those holds it, the job stays waiting and nothing is put on the day.
  • →+ Add on a day makes a workshop task that isn't a customer job: the compressor service, a router repair. Give it a person and a time and it takes that time out of their day.
  • →Machine services due in the plant register show on their day by themselves.
  • →Labels such as Booked or Waiting on artwork are made in the job panel and show on every card for that job, always as words.
  • →If someone else moves the same job at the same moment, the first save wins and the other screen shows their change with a note. Nothing is overwritten silently.
  • →Removing a workshop task asks first, and it can't be undone.
  • →Admins and production managers set each person's planner colour and initials on People: Colour and initials, beside their name.
  • →On a phone or an upright tablet the tray starts folded away so the week shows first; tap it to open.
  • →On your phone, My work shows your week by day with a tick to finish, and can put your work in your phone's calendar.
