Create your departments
Model the stations work passes through in your shop.
What this is for
Departments are the stations a job moves through — design, print, laminate, CNC, weld, paint, install. They are the backbone of Sign OS: they drive your labour costs, your floor boards and your production schedule.
Before you start
- You are signed in as an admin.
- Think through the real stages a job goes through in your shop.
Step by step

Go to Settings → Departments.
- 2
Click + Add department. In the New department panel, name each stage of your process — keep the names the way your team already talks about them — then click Create.

Give each one a colour so it is easy to spot on the floor boards and timeline.

Back in the list, drag the rows into the order work usually flows — jobs and job sheets follow this sequence.
Tips & gotchas
- Start with the departments you actually have. You can add or rename them any time as your process changes.
- Every department you create becomes a board on the floor and a lane on the production timeline.
